The Friday bake-off: Damson Crumble

Fiercely competitive crumble baking – with a little help from my friends and Storify – a delicious way to curate online images, text and recipe tips. An episode from: Miss Spelt and her baking adventures. xx

I have, perhaps rashly agreed to competitively bake a damson crumble. Does anyone have any winning tips for me? #crumbleBakeOff thank you xx

@MisAchievement Make sure you put loads of crumble on top and don’t pack it down. Most importantly though, don’t forget to save me some :)

@Hagelrat I can garnish with lemon sorbet ice cream and home grown strawberries. #accessories

@MisAchievement I’m afraid that the only wisdom I can share is to serve it with loads of proper custard! Yum :) #crumbleBakeOff

@tony_jacobs It’s a tough call, I think, for summer, my optimum accompaniment would be vanilla Devonshire ice-cream. #crumbleBakeOff

Ooo, thanks Debbie, I definitely think you should make a crumble too #crumblefriday. I was planning to put a few oats in the crumble topping too. Dave, I’m sure you’ve got some crumble wisdom too… #crumbleBakeOff

Hmmm. Friday endofweek crumbles versus Sunday roast and crumble and custard. That could be a close call ;->

@MisAchievement ripe fruit + nutification of the crumble? And booze. To drink while you cook.

I’ve never made a damson crumble, but if I did I think I’d add some ground almond to the crumble mix, in my imagination it tastes great… #crumbleBakeOff
